Restoration Community Project
The King George Hotel
The Rev. D. L. McQuinn Memorial Foundation
Eastern Division
The Rev. D. L. McQuinn Memorial Foundation has back in its possession
a family heritage property – The King George Hotel.
Located in Penobsquis the property has gone through many changes since its creation in 1856-1857.
At one time it held the local Community Post office, a
number of rooms for rent, and was a hub next to the Train Station in
Penobsquis.
Over the years it has passed through many hands. finally coming
to be part of the Heber McQuinn estate.
It passed down from Heber to Dr. L. E. McQuinn who renovated
the property extensively into a duplex with basement, first floor and second floor containing 2- and 3-bedroom units. In the early eighties another two bedroom apt was created in the attic area.
In 2003 it became part of the Dr. L. E. McQuinn Estate and
was purchased by Rev. and Mrs. D. L. McQuinn. Rev. McQuinn held the property until 2019 when it was purchased by a niece, illness made it too difficult to continue the sale, and it was returned to the Estate of the late Rev. D. L. McQuinn and placed as part of the Foundation.
Five generations of McQuinn’s have owned this property and
it is set to undergo a complete restoration project, (the house was partly destroyed through teenage vandalism, adult theft and
extreme water damage); hoping to helping our community with supportive housing for those experiencing low-income challenges and housing as well as the Eastern division of the Rev. D. L. McQuinn Memorial Foundation and Apostolic and Community history
and community Library.
An exciting community project, which we hope will have a
positive influence and bring some connection to our beloved community.

OUR GOALS
To provide low-income, small self-contained rental units with life-time
leases for those suffering from homelessness, mental health issues,
poverty, ptsd, trauma and spiritual pain,
while providing a supportive rural environment for day-to-day living.

Including but not limited to:
- Building small rural rental units with unique long-term life leases for non-homeowners – creating peace and housing stability.
- Building small houses under 600 sq feet with small gardens for those unable to care for larger properties, for positive mental health and exercise.
- Collaborating with communities and developers to build small intense rural communities for physical, mental and spiritual supports and live style.
- Providing a unique rural lifestyle with physical support systems for appointments, health care and community involvement, including Community buses and drivers.
Recognizing the intense financial
pressure on the single aging population i.e., widows, the divorced, men aging out of the work force – over 50, as
well as other low-income situations and disabilities … we are endeavoring to create a self – sustaining, rural community support system.
